Guatemalan Ties Heritage Journey

Updated 12.11 (Favicon).png

For 30 years, The Ties Program has humbly served adoptees and their families as they are ready to embark on a birth country journey. Working with the staff at El Amor de Patricia, Guatemalan Ties families see the sights, learn about this beautiful country and culture, meet people important to their adoption, and give back. Every donation, no matter the size, is appreciated, tax-deductible and goes directly towards these impactful projects. To contribute, simply click the DONATE button. When making a donation, in the "notes" section please add the last name of the Ties family you are donating on behalf of. If you are donating a specific item, please add what items and how many you are donating (Elder bed, stove, bunk bed, sheets, or a donation to El Amor). If you have any questions or issues, please email Rebecca@AdoptiveFamilyTravel.com

Our Projects:

Elder Beds ($250+$20 for sheets): Currently the largest need in the community. During Covid when El Amor staff delivered food directly to homes throughout the region, they noticed that nearly all elderly people were sleeping on the floor with mats or pieces of wood. Elderly villagers started asking for beds, and El Amor has provided them. The bed has handrails and comes with a standard size mattress, a pillow, and a comforter. All components are sourced locally. One set of sheets can be added for $20 (sheets can also be brought from the U.S. by Ties families, if you are donating a bed, please either bring or donate sheets). Delivery and set up takes place by Guatemalan Ties FLAGSHIP families.

Stove Installation ($205): Stoves are a significant need in the community and replace open fires inside homes, offering clean air, safety, and quality of life for families. These innovative stoves are designed with cultural needs in mind, allowing for pots of rice and beans to be cooked simultaneously with tortillas. The stoves also require significantly less wood to heat, saving families time and resources, and reducing environmental impact. Delivery and set up takes place by Guatemalan Ties FLAGSHIP families.

Bunk Beds ($220 + $40 for sheets): Help us provide comfortable beds for children in the village of Yalu who have never had a bed of their own. The cost includes delivery, the bedframe, 2 mattresses, 2 pillows, and 2 comforters, all sourced locally. Two sets of sheets can be added for $40 (sheets can also be brought from the U.S. by Ties families, if you are donating a bed, please either bring or donate sheets). Delivery and set up takes place by Guatemalan Ties FLAGSHIP families.

Support El Amor de Patricia (any amount): The best way to support El Amor and its current needs is by donating via the red donation button below. The El Amor staff will buy the supplies it most needs at the time and the Ties FLAGSHIP team will present the items when they visit El Amor.  As an added bonus, donating helps the Guatemalan economy because El Amor can buy locally. Please note families are also given the option of bringing items from the U.S. if you are interested in doing so, please contact rebecca@adoptivefamilytravel.com.
